Project Life Update : Week 9

Wednesday, March 26, 2014

Happy Wednesday! It's time for another Project Life Update. This week I'm sharing my version of Week 9, documenting February 26th through March 4th. I kept the title card simple this week, with a few alpha stickers and the dates stamped onto a 3x4 piece of patterned paper.

This spread includes: 14 cell phone photos, 2 camera photos, 2 web photos, and 2 movie tickets. All the pictures were printed at a local photo studio on glossy paper.

What happened this week: New book purchase, hosted a fun event for the ladies of my church, 2 movie nights, a love for paper crafting, watched the Academy Awards, received some amazing news, and wrote out a 'currently' card.

This week was full of so many good things that I added a Design H insert. The blank 'snapshot' card will eventually have journaling. I'm still gathering my thoughts on this day and the news received; therefore, I left it blank for the time being.

The back of the insert was a great place to use up the 4x6 paper pad I purchased with the last Project Life Kit by Studio Calico. The patterns and colors of this kit could easily be my favorite. But then again, I seem to say that every month.

The bottom left photos in the image above are in a Flip Flap by Close To My Heart. It's the perfect way to add additional photos without an extra insert. It includes two extra photos and hidden journaling.

I found the phrase below while surfing the web one evening. It seemed to fit with the crazy mess that has become my living room. The phrase was printed on a 4x6 sheet of vellum using my HP Printer. The ink dried quickly and was the perfect overlay for this photo.

What a busy and fun week! Thanks for checking out this update. How are your Project Life albums for 2014 coming along?

March Scrap Your Stash Blog Hop :: Spring Tag

Thursday, March 20, 2014

Hello and welcome to the next stop on the Practical Scrappers Blog Hop where we're Scrapping Our Stash! You should have found your way here from Lisa Peeples. You're not going to want to miss a single hop along the way, so head over to the Practical Scrapper Blog to start from the very beginning!

Tim Holtz Spring Tag
For this month, I dug out an older Spring themed set from the talented Tim Holtz. I just love this rabbit image, but have never used it -- Self diagnosed hoarder! The stamp was embossed onto kraft paper and layered onto a watercolor tag.

Tim Holtz Spring Tag
I used a waterbrush and Distress Ink pad to create the watercolor background. After it dried, the florals from the stamp set were added to the tag bottom with black ink. My favorite part of the tag is the pearl embellishments made with a Viva Pearl Pen. What a simple, affordable way to create faux embellishments.

Embossed Easter Bunny Tag
Thanks for joining me for this month's hop. Next up is Alison Day. Happy hopping!

Project Life Update : Week 8

Wednesday, March 12, 2014

Happy Wednesday! Are you ready for another Project Life update? This spread documents my version of Week 8 in 2014 - February 19th through February 25th.

Project Life Spread by She Zig Zags
This spread includes: 4 cell phone photos, 0 camera photos, 1 bus pass, 2 cardboard box clippings, 1 car decal, and 4 internet photo finds. All of the pictures were printed at a local photo studio on glossy paper.

What happened this week: Made berry & yogurt smoothies, had a cold, yucky, lazy week, cried while watching the Katy Perry movie, documented my love for late night TV shows, and indulged in far too many girl scout cookies.

Oversized Images - Project Life
This week I used Photoshop to create a 6x8 photo, splitting it into 2-4x6 photos. I used an American Craft Slick Writer to add journaling directly to the photo.

Wood Veneer Embellishments
I found affordable tags and labels on a recent trip to Office Max. These labels were perfect for journaling this week. I added them in a few places alone as well as paired with printable labels from Studio Calico.

My metro pass usually makes it into my Project Life album once every few months. It's a great filler and date keeper.

March Card Sketch with Practical Scrappers

Tuesday, March 11, 2014

Good afternoon! I'm excited to bring you one of the two March Card Sketches from Practical Scrappers. It's a great sketch, and I guarantee you'll want to play along!

Card Sketch

Here's my take on the sketch...

Peachy Keen Stamps / Dish and Spoon Card
I used a fun, new set from Peachy Keen Stamps. How adorable are the dish and spoon?! I colored the images with Copic markers and added it to the square portion of the sketch.

Project Life Update: Week Six

Wednesday, March 5, 2014

Good afternoon! I'm excited to share another spread from my 2014 Project Life album. If you have never heard of Project Life, here's a beautiful video from creator Becky Higgins. This year I am creating two 12x12 spreads each week. Since taking on this time format in January, I haven't created a traditional 12x12 layout. I'm going to admit, that I'm ok with that right now. I absolutely love the style and simplicity... And I'm up to date!

The spread I'm sharing today is from week 6, which I have as February 5th to February 11th.

This spread includes: 9 cell phone pictures, 0 camera photos, 1 screenshot, and a business card. Half of the photos were printed at home using my HP printer on glossy paper, while the other half were printed at Walgreens. Sometimes a girl runs out of paper, ink, and time...

What happened this week: Babysat the nephew, found a new TV addition, enjoyed a day off, taught new classes, explored the city, found a new book store, and went to dinner with the parents.

February's Studio Calico Project Life Kit worked so well with my photos... This seems to happen only all the time! Can they read my mind?! All of the stamps and embellishments came from Studio Calico's kits as well. I've become obsessed with the vellum hearts and kraft die cuts.

While digging through my stash, I found this adorable washi tape from Freckled Fawn. I love it so much, the tape made it into the photo as well as on it! The embellishments for this photo were made by with Studio Calico stamps, white cardstock, and my favorite inks.

I work for an independent scrapbook store with my mom and her close friend... Just the three of us managing 10,000 square feet of retail space, an online store, classes, and more. The Archivers closing near us was a bittersweet experience. We hate to see yet another store in our industry shut its doors, but it has brought many exciting opportunities for our "little" shop. I added hidden journaling with personal thoughts, goals, and fears into a pocket this week, placing it behind a business card and kraft die cut.

I had an empty pocket this week; therefore, I tried to decorate this striped 4x6 journaling card. I played around with the embellishments and never seemed to get it right. Just a little bit of journaling was added (from an event without pictures). It was shoved in the pocket and called done. I need to remind myself sometimes to not over-think the process of this project!

How are you doing on your own Project Life albums?

A Muse Studio Amazing Card
Happy Monday! I'm back with another card using supplies from my stash. Patterns from Crate Paper were layered behind a doily and ruffled washi tape. Doilies will forever have a place in my projects.

Wishing For Spring :: Congrats Wedding Greeting

Saturday, March 1, 2014

Floral Congrats Card
My spring calendar has started filling up with weddings and bridal showers with the first just days away. I'm looking forward to all the flowers and dresses and girly things - The inspiration behind today's card.

Floral + Butterfly Spring Wedding Card
From my stash, I gathered together all things soft and spring - pastel sequins, floral paper, a doily, gold cording, vellum, handwritten washi tape, and a butterfly wood veneer.

Butterfly Wood Veneer Washi Tape
Washi tape is so easy to bend and fold in order to create beautiful ruffles. A piece was adhered to the vellum behind the stamped sentiment from A Muse Studio. I'm still addicted to the Tiny Attacher by Tim Holtz; therefore, the wood veneer was quickly added to the card with a single squeeze of the tool. Just a little machine stitching was added before adhering it to white cardstock.

Spring Wedding Card
I can't wait to give this to the bride-to-be... Or for spring to return to this part of the world. Bring on the flowers and butterflies puh-lease.
